SEWING WITH SURVIVORS!
Starting this October, the Creativity Shell will be opening our doors twice a month to offer FREE sewing classes for women who are survivors of assault and domestic violence. Through our Sewing with Survivors program, women will have a welcoming space to sew, create and simply spend time doing something for themselves. No sewing experience is necessary, and participants will never be asked to share or explain their stories. Machines, fabric, supplies and instruction will all be provided at no cost.

STOMP OUT HUMAN TRAFFICKING
The Creativity Shell encourages families to shine a light, start a conversation, and stand together.
Houston, TX – June 18, 2025 – This Saturday, June 21, families across Houston are called to take a stand in honor of Stomp Out Human Trafficking Day, a citywide initiative started in 2018 by the nonprofit organization, The Creativity Shell, and officially proclaimed by the late Mayor Sylvester Turner.
Observed annually on the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year, Stomp Out Human Trafficking Day reminds the community to remain vigilant—especially during summer months when children are out of school and more vulnerable to predators.
On this day, The Creativity Shell encourages Houston families to:
- Place a “Stomp Out Human Trafficking” sign in their yard
- Turn on a light in their window or on their front porch
- Start a conversation with children and loved ones about human trafficking and online safety.
“Most people think that trafficking begins with kidnapping,” says Shelancia Daniel, Founder of The Creativity Shell. “But the sad truth is that many children are groomed, lured, and trafficked by people they already know and trust.”
The campaign’s symbolic heart logo made of shoes stems from a deeply personal memory. Daniel recalls a trafficking survivor who fled a shelter, leaving her shoes behind. “The shoes represented a message—they were running, but also returning to danger. That image never left me,” she says. “Those soles now also remind us of the Summer Solstice, a time when predators prey on unsupervised youth and social media connections become dangerous gateways.”
The Creativity Shell is a Houston-based nonprofit that teaches sewing, quilting, cooking, and other creative trades to children and teens. Their programs are not only educational—they are also therapeutic tools used to help trafficking survivors and at-risk youth build confidence, self-worth, and vital life skills.
“The best way to stop human trafficking is to prevent it,” Daniel emphasizes. “When we teach kids skills, confidence, and creativity, we protect them from falling victim to those who want to exploit them.”

Millions of children in the USA are not given the opportunity to think outside the box and tap into their creative potential. Creativity Hour is designed to change that by offering both you and children the chance to engage in hands-on creative expression. Through this program, we aim to bring positive mental health and creativity to the forefront, not just for the participants, but also to help expand these opportunities into local schools, making a lasting difference.
The mission of the Creativity Shell is to empower youth to engage in creative activities that support their mental health, build their confidence, and foster a sense of community. We provide art, sewing, cooking, and other creative programs that offer kids a safe space to express themselves and discover their potential.
