Since 2021, the Creativity Shell has been teaching weekly cooking classes (Creativity Cooks) to 50 boys in the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department.
This program has been a huge success and a favorite among the students because they get the ability to learn a new skill and meet their physiological/psychological needs at the same time.
Some of the long term goals of this program (aside from learning a life skill) is to teach the knowledge of food handling and food preparation to students in order to obtain a food handling certificate upon release from interaction. Creativity Cooks is also hoping to partner them with restaurants where they can obtain employment and other opportunities upon release.
The Creativity Shell provides all food, equipment, instructions, and other materials and supplies needed for students to cook. Each week, we deliver a robust program within the constraints of the system and we are constantly trying to find creative ways to make this program more engaging and exciting for students in our classes.
Due to the high demand for Creativity Cooks in juvenile facilities across the Houston area, our organization needs more funds to support this program and will need to raise at least $30,000 to teach 100 students in the 2023 - 2024 school year.
All donations of $45 and up to the Creativity Cooks program for Youths in the Juvenile Probation Department will receive one of our specialty aprons!
Donations will help cover the costs such as:
